Information on registration with the regional chambers of commerce in Hungary

I.) GENERAL INFORMATION

On 21 November 2011, the Parliament adopted the bill on the amendment of certain tax laws and other related laws, which includes the amendment of Act CXXI of 1999 on Economic Chambers (hereinafter: Act CXXI of 1999 on Economic Chambers).

The amendment contains three important changes, according to which, based on the new provisions that entered into force on January 1, 2012, business organisations are obliged to:

- initiate their registration with the Chamber,

- pay an annual contribution of 5,000 HUF for the performance of the Chamber's public tasks. The amount paid is deducted from the membership fee for voluntary members.

After 1 January 2022, due to the amendment of Act CXXI of 1999 on Economic Chambers, both existing and newly established businesses will have to pay the contribution fee to the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on its bank account number 12100011-10639683 held at Gránit Bank. The 11-digit tax number of the company must be entered in the reference field to identify the payment.

If the company is in arrears with the payment of the contribution fee for the period prior to 31 December 2021, it must continue to pay it to the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (hereinafter: BCCI) to bank account number 10102086-02614500-02003005 held at MBH Bank. If the 2022 contribution fee has already been paid to the BCCI, it will be settled with the MCCI, thus no further payment is required.

The Chamber is obliged to provide them with the services specified in the law (advice on economic, financial, tax matters, access to credit; business partner search and tender monitoring) free of charge.

Should you have any questions, please contact us at the Registry Office. We offer a wide range of advice free of charge by e-mail, telephone and in person. Business organisations that have complied with the legal requirements in previous years and have been registered with the Chamber (have a registration number) do not have to provide data this year (unless they have changed), but are still required to pay the contribution fee based on the provisions of the law.

Businesses that have not yet registered or paid their contribution fee are urged to make up for it as soon as possible.

1. Newly established partnerships shall apply for registration with the regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry of their place of establishment within 5 days of the registration of their businesses, while individual entrepreneurs shall apply for registration at the same time as they give notice of the commencement of their business activity. Subsequently they are to pay the contribution fee to the bank account of HCCI: Gránit Bank 12100011-10639683.

2. Pursuant to the provisions of the Act, every business organisation, in the event of its termination or of a change in the data contained in the Chamber's register, must apply to the regional economic chamber that maintains the register within five working days to have its data deleted from the Chamber's register or to have the data modified. The processes of data modification and data deletion from the Chamber's register are free of charge.

3. It is important to note that membership remains voluntary; therefore registered businesses do not become members of the Chamber upon registration.

4. The amendment does not affect the agricultural sector, i.e. it does not apply to businesses whose core activities are agricultural activities, to farmers and chambers of agriculture.

*Those who have failed to comply with the legal requirements (registration and payment of the contribution fee) can expect that the National Tax and Customs Administration (NTCA) will collect the fee, since it is considered unpaid public dues.
